Baking for Good

What is Baking for Good?

Baking for Good is a modern-day bake sale reimagined for the web. It's an online bakery that donates 15% of the net proceeds from each purchase to a cause that the customer chooses. Customers order our delicious, gourmet bakery items for delivery nationwide and choose a cause to support at checkout.

Causes

What causes can I support through Baking for Good?

Our causes span several categories, including animals, education, health, veterans, and more. You can view our causes here. We welcome you to email us at causes@bakingforgood.com with suggestions for new causes and organizations you would like us to support.

How Does Baking for Good's Donation Model Work?

Baking for Good donates 15% of the net proceeds from each purchase to a cause the customer chooses. Our causes span several categories, including animals, education, health, veterans, and more. When we list each cause on our site, we indicate some of the organizations that we have supported in the field in the past. Every month we donate to nonprofits that are making a difference within each category. We use nominations from our customers as well as rating systems like Charity Navigator to determine which nonprofits to support each month. We always welcome your suggestions for causes and organizations to support, so please feel free to email us at causes@bakingforgood.com with your ideas. You can also visit our blog to read about some of the nonprofits we have supported in previous months.

Why Can I No Longer Choose a Specific Nonprofit On Your Website?

One of the reasons we have changed our model is that the number of organizations we were working with had gotten really, really long -- over 200 organizations long, in fact -- and we found that though we were donating a lot of money each month, it was spread across so many organizations that it was difficult to see it making a difference in any one place. Furthermore, we heard feedback that the list was a bit overwhelming, and customers weren't sure how to choose among such a long list of organizations. Most importantly, we learned that laws in several states prevent nonprofits from promoting commercial ventures like ours, and discourage businesses like ours from linking the names of nonprofits directly with the purchases of products. It's complicated, and the rules vary from state to state, but we've made a decision to simplify the way we make our donations.

We know that sometimes you really want to choose a specific organization that has important meaning to you or to your recipients, and we want to still allow that to happen. For wedding orders and other big events and gifts (any purchase over $300), you will be able to choose an organization of your choice. Contact us at orders@bakingforgood.com to talk to us about these types of orders.

Can I support more than one charity at a time?

At this time you can only choose one cause to support per order. If you would like to support multiple causes, we ask that you please place multiple orders.

Donation Transactions

When will my cause receive funds from Baking for Good?

We process donations on a monthly basis. Organizations receive funds from Baking for Good during the first 10 days of the month based on the previous month's sales.

Can I receive a tax deduction for the 15% donation?

No, because the donation to the charity is not being made directly by you. Baking for Good is making the donation based on your recommendation.

Our Products

Where can I find your list of ingredients?

We list all ingredients for a given product below the product on our website. We also include an ingredient list with each purchase.

Where can I find the nutritional information for your products?

Coming soon!

Where are your products made?

We're based in New York City. Our products are baked and shipped all over the country from Long Island City, NY. We also do local catering and delivery for those in the area. Email us at for details.

Do your products contain nuts?

All of our products are prepared in a facility that contains nuts. We do our very best to ensure that no nut products come in contact with our products that don't contain nuts, but unfortunately we can't make guarantees about traces of nuts.

Do your products contain trans fats?

No, we never use ingredients that contain trans fats, nor do we add artificial preservatives. If you wouldn't want it in your kitchen, we don't want it in ours.

How long will my baked goods stay fresh?

Our products don't contain any preservatives, so we recommend eating them within 1-2 weeks of receiving them. We don't think you'll have any trouble!

Can I freeze your products?

Yes! We think our brownies, bars, and cookies freeze beautifully. We recommend wrapping each product individually in saran wrap and then in tin foil. When you're ready to eat one of the products, remove it from the freezer and let it defrost still in its packaging. Sometimes we blast them in the microwave (without the packaging, of course) for a couple of seconds if we're in a hurry. We recommend eating the products within one month if frozen.

Does Baking for Good have its own retail store?

Currently Baking for Good only operates an online bakery. We hope to have our products in retail stores soon. If you would like to sell Baking for Good products, email with the subject line "Sell Baking for Good Products."

What happens if I am not satisfied with one of your products?

We want you to enjoy every product you order from our site. All of our products are made by hand, and while we do our best to maintain consistency each and every time we make a product, there may be slight variations from one order to another. If for some reason your order does not meet your satisfaction, please contact us for a replacement or refund. Please include your name, order number, phone number, and a description of the problem.

Do you ship outside of the United States?

No, at this time we do not ship outside of the United States except to APO/FPO addresses. If you would like to share our products with friends or family who live outside of the US, we recommend that you have them shipped to your own address first and then re-ship them.

Do you ship to Post Office Boxes?

We find FedEx shipping and tracking to be more reliable and prefer to ship to regular addresses, but yes, we can ship to PO Boxes too. When you ship to a PO Box, your recipient will receive a note in his or her PO Box letting him or her know to pick up the package at the desk.

Do you ship to APO/FPO addresses?

Yes, we do. When you place your order, please approximate the address as best as possible in our order system. Or you can always email the address to orders@bakingforgood.com.

Note that the tracking information for APO/FPO addresses does not always indicate delivery confirmation.
