RxArt is a non-profit organization that is committed to fostering artistic expression and awareness through the challenging yet rewarding task of engaging patients through contemporary art in health care facilities. By curating installations in hospital settings, we provide a creative surrounding that helps to relieve stress and anxiety, while increasing appreciation for contemporary art.
RxArt installations transform otherwise sterile environments, which are often frightening and alienating to patients, to more comforting, meditative and positive environments, by offering patients thoughtful diversion from their hospitalization. Our installations also help to relieve the stress experienced by doctors, nurses and staff. Our partner institutions are delighted with our projects reporting that they have made real and crucial contributions to healing environments.
RxArt takes an active role in considering the most appropriate artwork for specific health care environments. We work with health care staff and art professionals from some of the country's top museums to consider the most appropriate artwork for specific environments. Artwork may be commissioned or we may negotiate the purchase of outstanding existing pieces. RxArt's collection contains works by projects who are household names and whose artworks are held in museums worldwide including William Wegman, Sol LeWitt and Frank Stella. In addition, we publish a coloring book, Between the Lines, which we distribute to children in our partner health care facilities, and proceeds from all sales benefit future RxArt projects.
