Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals

The Mayor’s Alliance works with 160+ rescue groups and shelters and the City of New York toward the day when no New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament is killed merely because he or she does not have a home.

Since the founding of the Mayor’s Alliance in 2002, adoptions are up more than 50% and the kill rate at Animal Care and Control (in effect, the city shelter in NYC) has been reduced from 74% to 39%. More than 42,000 homeless dogs and cats enter these shelters every year, so this decrease means that 14,500 four legged New Yorkers are now being saved each year. The Mayor’s Alliance is committed to making NYC a “no-kill” city.
