Delaware College of Art and Design was founded through a creative partnership between Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design. DCAD’s mission is to educate talented and committed students to become art makers, idea generators, problem solvers, and visual communicators who can redefine the way we perceive and experience the world around us. It also serves as a visible stakeholder, cultural anchor, and catalyst for the revitalization of downtown Wilmington, Delaware.
The Delaware College of Art and Design is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Offering a two-year Associate of Fine Arts program, students can opt to major in Animation, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design or Photography. The AFA program emphasizes studio education in art and design combined with a liberal arts program. The studio curriculum allows students to develop basic skills, concepts, and values in their respective areas of study. Students receive thorough preparation for transfer into bachelor of fine arts degree programs at Pratt, the Corcoran, or other prestigious art and design schools.
In addition, DCAD offers student housing in downtown Wilmington and accommodates about 145 of the 220 students enrolled as residents. All students can take advantage of the Tatiana Copeland Student Center and the Edgar A. Thronson Library. In addition to the degree program, DCAD also boasts a strong Continuing Education program, open to all ages from high school and older. That program offers courses and workshops in the evenings and on weekends that can boost artistic abilities as well as improve a resume.
