Circle of Women's mission is to equip girls with self-reliance, knowledge, and increased capacities to both enhance their own lives and to contribute productively to their societies. Circle of Women believes this is the best way to affect positive, global change. Their philosophy is that one school will affect one community. One community will make a world of change.
A message from Circle of Women:
Circle of Women believes that every person has the right to an education. We try to address the gender gap in literacy and education rates in developing countries. In doing this, we believe that educated girls will in turn become educated mothers, therefore in giving girls an education we are helping them as individuals, but perhaps even more importantly we hope to imbue the value of education in these women with a hope that they may, in turn, nurture a better-educated generation.
“The surest way to keep a people down is to educate the men and neglect the women. If you educate a man you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a family.”
-Dr. J. E. Kwegyir Aggrey; visionary Ghanian educator (1875 - 1927)
Some statistics on women's education in the developing world:
-Approximately ¼ of girls in developing countries are not in school.
-Out of the world’s 130 million out-of-school youth, 70% are girls.
-Economists link each year of additional maternal education with a five to ten percent decline in infant mortality.
A $5 donation will send a girl to school at our project in Afghanistan for one month. Thank you for your generosity, and enjoy your yummy treats!
