Children's Rights Institute (CRI)

The Children's Rights Institute (CRI) was founded in 2007 by its director, Brooke Goldstein, a New York based attorney, activist, author and award-winning filmmaker. CRI's mission is to raise awareness about and legally combat violations of children's basic human rights as occurring throughout the globe. CRI has a special focus on the incitement and recruitment of children to become suicide-homicide bombers, child soldiers and human shields.

In Iraq handicapped children are being blown up by remote controlled detonators, in Afghanistan the Taliban is paying up to seven thousand dollars to parents to entice them into giving up their children and in Pakistan children are being sent by the thousands to be educated in radical Madrassas, taught to kill other innocents while violently taking their own lives as ‘martyrs.'

CRI takes the position that there is no justification, whatsoever, for the education of children towards violence, nor is there justification for the recruitment of innocent children to participate in violent conflict. CRI uses all available media, including film and live debates, to raise awareness and foster dialogue about such issues of grave public concern.

The award-winning documentary film, “The Making of a Martyr,” documents Goldstein's experience filming and interviewing wanted members of terrorist organization, families of Palestinian child suicide bombers, children imprisoned for attempting to blow themselves up, their school teachers and others. CRI is working towards documenting other instances of children abused in conflict zones, while the 'Martyr' is available to watch for free online here: http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/making_of_a_martyr/. Any and all support for this mission is greatly appreciated.
